Carol Edgarian of Narrative Magazine hosts a wonderful discussion between two authors, Rick Bass and James Workman, in San Francisco, at the California Academy of Science. Both authors share their experience in wild places: Rick Bass in the Yaak Valley, Montana, and James Workman with the Bushmen of the Kalahari, Africa. The video shows extraordinary photos and footage of these pristine remote jewels of our planet. The video also supports the Wilderness bill submitted by U.S. Senator Jon Tester. An interesting discussion takes place on the role of stories in our society and whether creative writing and activism are mutually exclusive or can be combined for environmentalists. Shot November 5, 2009. Please check out: www.narrativemagazine.com www.heartofdryness.com

Alberta Equestrian Federation, National Trails Coalition and the Willmore Wilderness Foundation were involved in a joint venture to restore the historical trails in Willmore Wilderness Park in August 2009. These three groups are stewards who have an interest in clearing the trails in the Park. This expedition showed the collaboration of three groups, one National and two Provincial, to clear deadfall and undergrowth off of the old packtrails. The trails in the western portion of Willmore are much more neglected and there is a lot more windfall and undergrowth. On the west side of the Smoky River, the trails have been neglected for years and the work clearing this area is a big job. The Willmore Wilderness Foundation and Alberta Equestrian Federation are committed to work on the trails and provide information to the public. The users must take a greater stewardship role, which is something that needs to be cultivated.
