www.maxsmith.tv The First in a series of short films, aiming to give viewers an intimate view of wild habitats across the U.K, without the use of narration or a definitive plot, allowing viewers to take what they want from the footage, illustrating as closely as possible what it is like to explore the habitat first hand. The next film will be shot on the Exe estuary in Devon, and will play host to an entirely different cast of wildlife & habitats. The film was shot in September 2013 in Argyll forest park. All footage was shot in raw on the 50D and 5D mkii - using the magic lantern hack. HOW TO MAKE A FOREST FROM A PATCH OF GRASS Winner of WWF Short Film Contest. My daughter created a tiny nature reserve in our garden to save the wildlife in the grass from the lawn mower. We stopped to talk about it, and then spent the afternoon looking for wildlife in the grass. What she found really amazed me: so many little creatures in a tiny patch of grass. Wildlife often seems remote and disconnected from our day-to-day lives, and our impact on the environment as individuals seems minimal. But my daughter's idea - that an individual can save a tiny patch of the earth suddenly changed the way I think, and inspired me to do something. So, I'm sending out this thought in the hope that others may be inspired to appreciate the diversity of life on earth (even the slugs and snails) and take positive action to protect it. I hope this inspires you too. As environmentalist David Orr wrote: "When we heal the earth, we heal ourselves." Maybe together we can save an entire forest...starting with a tiny patch of grass? A trio of Snow Leopard cubs born at the Cat Survival Trust in Hertfordshire, born at the end of May 2010. All three are doing really well, and mum is calm enough to let them go for a wander with Doctor Terry Moore who runs the charity. I hadn't actually expected Terry to fetch them from their enclosure, so had armed myself with my largest lenses for the afternoon, and only had a 15mm Fisheye and 50mm prime to get some up close action when he emerged clutching them! The latter half of the afternoon was spent in Terry's office seeing the field conservation he is doing on a reservation in Argentina, which is simply amazing. In Argentina he is apparently known as the 'Englishman from the Jungle,' and taken very seriously. On his last trip he met the Argentinian environmental minister, making front page news there. Conservation needs more people like Terry.

Over the years, he has just become such an incredible and focused photographer, ranging from doing portraiture now to landscape photography. He is one of the most humble men you will ever meet and really shows that there is no secret to photography or getting an incredible image. Kevin has been traveling throughout the great American west shooting landscape and wildlife solely with his iPhone 4s and 5. He rarely pulls out his DSLR unless it's for a bear or bear cub where he can't get close. This is just a small peek into his life as a traveling photographer and some stories that come along with it. This is a short clip inspired by Hans Zimmer's music from "The Thin Red Line". My tribute to great composer and beauty of nature. Antarctica was the last, 7th continent I visited and dove. Kind of a last stop on a journey called "Earth". But in fact the journey never ends... All shots were made with Sony EX1 camera.

After many hours of hard work, throughout continental Spain (I leave the islands for the next time), I managed to edit this short film about the birds of my beloved country. Living and working in the richest European country regarding birds, I tried to film some of the Spanish specialities, mainly for non-Spanish birders. With so many different habitats and species, I had to move, driving to special locations sometimes separated more than 1000 km. The good thing was that after so many years birdwatching and working with birds, I really knew pretty well where to look for... Mainly shot with Canon HDLRS cameras and 400 5.6 lens (sometimes plus 1.4x and 2x III). Music by Armand Amar (thank you again): http://www.armandamar.com/ Main locations: - Riglos and Valle de Tena (Pyrenees, Huesca) - Bardenas Reales (Navarra) - Montes de Toledo and Andújar (Jaén) - Albufera de Valencia and Dénia - Tablas de Daimiel (Ciudad Real) and Doñana (Huelva) - Coast of Murcia and Almeria Species list: (order by appearance) - Bubo bubo, Gypaetus barbatus, Tichodroma muraria, Chersophilus duponti, Otis tarda, Falco naumanni, Pterocles orientalis, Bucanetes githagineus, Cercotrichas galactotes, Aquila adalberti, Sylvia hortensis, Aegypius monachus, Cyanopica cyana, Galerida theklae, Sturnus unicolor, Dryocopus martius, Dendrocopos leucotos, Phylloscopus bonelli, Serinus citrinella, Montifringilla nivalis, Pyrrhocorax graculus, Prunella collaris, Luscinia svecica, Merops apiaster, Upupa epops, Circus pygargus, Larus genei, Porphyrio porphyrio, Oxyura leucocephala, Marmaronetta angustirostris, Phoenicopterus ruber-Platalea leucorodia, Grus grus. SPECIAL THANKS TO ARCADIO CALVO (the clip of the Spanish Imperial Eagles is his), without his knowledge and support it would have been even more difficult. Also thanks to: Virtudes Abad, Marino López, Manuel Aguilera, José Polo, Carlos Rodriguez, Isabel González, Jacinto Rodenas, Ruben Ramos
