from James Anaquad Kleinert Films Added 48 1 0

Wild Horses & Renegades directly confronts the debacle of wild horse management on American federal lands and the underlying role of corporate interests in what is a national embarrassment. The film opens with stunning and close-up footage of wild horses running, playing, fighting and generally enjoying their lives on the public lands of the American West. Celebrities Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Michael Blake (Author of Dances With Wolves) and Pulitzer Prize winning American Indian author Scott Momaday deliver profound statements about the American wild horse and its spiritual connection to people and the Earth. Filmmaker James Anaquad-Kleinert describes his first BLM wild horse roundup and how it changed the entire course of his life. The scenes that follow are brutal. Wild horses are violently chased down by helicopter in the ice and snow on the high desert of Wyoming. From there, the film covers the entire story of the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) brutal mistreatment of wild horses and the earth they roam. The film follows a herd of wild horses living in Disappointment Valley, Colorado, where the threat of oil/gas fracturing and uranium mining is immanent. The film zeros in on a band stallion known as Traveler. In footage filmed prior to the 2007 BLM roundup in Disappointment Valley, it creates an aesthetic and serene portrait of Traveler’s band living in a beautiful and wild natural setting. This beautiful setting is interrupted by the violence and trauma of the 2007 helicopter roundup that is to come. In the 2007 roundup, Traveler was captured and sent to short-term holding in Canon City, Colorado a maximum-security federal prison. Through interviews with experts, BLM officials, politicians, celebrities, activists and environmentalists, and through revealing close-up footage of roundups, holding facilities, and slaughter plants, “Wild Horses & Renegades” shares the profound story and history of America’s wild horses on public lands, and their grim fate at the hands of a corrupt federal government and their ties to big oil/gas and mining. ***Note Wild Horses & Renegades was voted by Canadian based movie review company Blog Critics as one of the Top Ten Overlooked Gems of 2011 (www.blogcritics.org). International Wild Life Film Festival Awards of Excellence in: Investigative Journalism, Cinematography and Music/Sound Editing.

                from The Nobelity Project Added

The SXSW Audience Award winner BUILDING HOPE tells the inspiring story of The Nobelity Project's partnership with a rural African community to build the area's first high school. Through drought, flood, and fundraising challenges, the film chronicles the construction of Mahiga Hope High School and the connection between a thousand people in the U.S. and an African community working to create a better future for their children. An inspiring story of those who believe education shouldn’t end after the 8th grade, this is the third of Turk Pipkin's trilogy of feature docs that began with NOBELITY and ONE PEACE AT A TIME. (And yes, Turk is most often recognized as having played that narcoleptic guy on THE SOPRANOS.) Also appearing are Willie Nelson, Cameron Sinclair (Architecture for Humanity), and Auma Obama (sister to President Obama). The soudttrack includes music by Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Ayub Ogada, Afro Celt Sound System, Eliza Gilkyson and Kat Edmonson. In addition to film festival awards and critical acclaim ("Red bull for the humanitarian soul," said the Austin Chronicle), Building Hope has already inspired viewers to help the Nobelity Project partner with 17 additional schools in Kenya to build classrooms, libraries, water systems and science labs. Let your car burn your fat for you. Four old cars with young drivers travelled from Washington DC to Costa Rica, filling up their engines with waste fat from restaurants. The adventurous challenge was to stop moaning about our petrol-hungry world and the environmental crisis and do something positive. The teams drove 5000 miles, with many bumps along the way, and discovered lots of inspiring people making alternative fuels out of fish and other stuff. Join the ride - watch Greaseball Challenge.
