Beautiful fluffy rain clouds as they move across the San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm, near Palm Springs, CA. There are more than 4000 wind turbines, capable of producing enough sustainable power for the entire city of Palm Springs and the whole Coachella Valley. The clouds are the real star in this film. Two summers ago driving back to Minneapolis from Colorado, Lucas, who was three months old, decided he would not stand to be in the car for more than two-hour stretches. So I took advantage of the opportunity and did something I had been thinking about for several years: I filmed the old windmills and new wind turbines along the I-76 and I-80 corridors of Colorado, Nebraska, and Iowa. My poor parents had signed on to caravan with us - before we knew Lucas was going to double the length of the road trip. In addition, at one of the many rest stops we visited, our dog Romeo dragged my dad for nearly 10 feet over the sidewalk like a helpless rag doll. Hence the dedication. A year and a half later, I finally got around to editing the footage. Camera: Canon HV30 with Letus DOF adapter. Music: Any Other Name by Thomas Newman

full post // http://chrisandoliver.com/blog/2010/10/04/how-it-ends-inspire-to-think/ {no cgi. no animation. all real footage. all shot by us} We showcased our new piece at Entrusted Talents: The Show--the organizers behind the event invited various artists to perform @ Foellinger Auditorium on the University of Illinois Campus, and we were graciously invited to create something to start off the evening. This piece afforded us the opportunity and freedom to create something very personal--an opportunity to express our beliefs, to create something broader in scope, to push the boundaries of what we've done thus far--and yet, like all of our films, something that would carry much of its weight in its subtleties. *A lot of this piece is beautifully [and painstakingly] shot, but I believe there is much more to be said about all the little things found in the layers of subtext. It would be great if people enjoyed this film on an aesthetic level--after all, we put in some serious hours on this one. However, our hope is that the visuals we produced ultimately lead to and inspire thought. I'm quite curious to hear yours :]

                      from Randy Smith Added 904 15 6

Sunday November 20th, as my wife and I were driving home from a short vacation in Desert Hot Springs, I saw these beautiful fluffy clouds from a rain storm over the wind turbines, in Palm Springs. We pulled over and while my wife looked for burrowing owls in the field, I set up the tripod and shot video with my new Sony A77 DSLT. I'm loving this camera. I used a Sony 35mm 1.8 lens with a polarizing filter, aperture priority at F11, manual focus.
