The Amateur Monster Movie is the first feature length film by King's Tower Productions and writer/director Kyle Richards, all filmed within an hour of Milwaukee, WI over the course of 57 days during the summers of 2009 and 2010. It was shot as a "no-budget" film and the entire cast and crew worked for free on owned or borrowed equipment to get it made. Only food, fuel, and minor prop expenses were incurred throughout the entire production. The film premiered at Milwaukee's Oriental Theatre on midnight of January 1, 2011 to a record crowd of over 700. After a few film festival appearances, highlighted by the Wisconsin Film Festival and, a cast and crew favorite, the Oshkosh Horror Film Festival, Richards decided to release the film for free online, a move intended to encourage more movies and media to do the same and allow free media access to everyone online. The Amateur Monster Movie is a comedy/horror starring Chris Ouchie, Kyle Richards, Samantha Goetz, and Steve Golla as Officer Larry Hopkins. It is also available to buy on DVD with over 5 and a half hours of bonus content at http://spadeheartclub.com/tamm.html Your DVD purchases help us pay back our post production expenses on festival submissions, travel, and DVD replication. And plus, these are fucking awesome DVDs!! Enjoy the movie!

Multiple faculty members participated in a panel discussion for the Wisconsin Triennial, Wednesday, September 25, 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Discovery World’s Innovation Theater. Moderated by MIAD Core Coordinator Nicholas Frank, the panel discussion features faculty Tyanna Buie, Santiago Cucullu, Shana McCaw and Brent Budsberg, Kevin Miyazaki, Lynn Tomaszewski and Jason Yi. The artists discuss their work and the contemporary issues that inform their studio practices. Frank said this panel "Considers all aspects of arts education, from schools to museums, from artists to audiences, from students to teachers... Art is traditionally a mode of innovation and rebellion, but classrooms and museums are places of calm and order. We began from the provocative title of a James Elkins treatise on the subject, 'Why Art Cannot Be Taught.'"
