A video which explores the notion (and some of the motifs) of 'Intersection' in Wong Kar-wai's 2000 film IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE through its synchronous compilation of the images and soundtracks from the 'Yumeji's Theme' montage sequences in the film. Shot on a shoestring budget in downtown Los Angeles, 'Amanesis' is a cyberpunk short film about how our memories make us who we are. This small featurette details the passion and inventiveness that went into the making of this 'New Wave' style short. indiegogo.com/anamnesis

In an effort to recreate the step printing effect Wong Kar-Wai uses in his films (for great examples of it, check out Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, and Happy Together), I quickly shot some footage at different frame rates, did some math, and came up with some calculations for you to achieve the same effect. The idea is to shoot fast motion with a slow shutter and slow it down in post. But by how much exactly? Shot #5 looks the closest to the look of his films. Here are the values I used: Shot at 300% (8 fps) on Panasonic GH3. Shutter speed was set to 1/15 (ideally it would be 1/8 for 360 degree shutter angle). Slowed it down by 33.3% in Premiere to make the footage normal speed. Frame blend OFF (with it on, it gives it a hazier, druggier feel).
