In Wood duck box #1 momma sits on 10 eggs, despite having trees chopped down around her. She nested really early this year! They are due to be hatched May 25th, I thought I'd take a peek with the endoscope camera. Momma #2 was on the frog pond.

I snuck up on the Wood duck down at the frog pond. He's so shy! I hope he likes the new nesting box.

Since I videoed the Pileated Woodpecker creating a cavity, we haven't seen him go back in, however we have seen hen Wood Ducks go in. I pointed the camera and scope at the cavity yesterday, and this is 26 minutes condensed into 31 seconds. My jaw dropped when I saw how it ended! We were surprised that there was room for ONE Wood Duck and eggs! Digiscoped in 4K with a GH4 on an STX95 scope.

After two weeks of rain, we had four days of sunshine, and I spent the first and last three hours of each of those days in my backyard blind, videoing the many birds other wildlife that are now calling the swamp home. It's very hard for me to leave the house right now, as there is always something exciting going on right outside the window. In order to give a better perspective, I used a 105mm lens on a second camera, and had it running much of the time I was filming with my digiscoping system. The Wood Ducks are so wary, that I have to keep a cover over my scope so they don't see my hand focusing and making camera adjustments, and I have to keep my head down behind the camera at all times. When its time to leave the blind, I call my husband on my cell phone and he comes out of the house, which scares the ducks away, and then I come out of the blind. I don't want to scare them, but I also don't want them to start thinking that it's safe to be around a blind with someone in it. Everything was shot in 4K. One system was a GH4 + 20mm/1.7 + Digidapter + Swarovski STX85; the 2nd system was a GH4 + 105mm. Everything was shot using manual focus.

It seems like 3 single male Wood ducks, one pair, another pair of Mallards, but I kept losing count! Mr. Wood duck kept his partner away from the other males!

This is a re-edit of "Hunting Wood Ducks with the GH4" - I hope you enjoy it! It was digiscoped with the GH4 + 20mm/1.7 mounted on a Swarovski STX85 scope using the Digidapter (1000mm equivalence). Shot in 4K by manually focusing the scope.
