The title of these shows; "LE CORPS et MOI" The body is an ongoing pretext for the artists to question themselves: how do we still look at it in a society where it is constantly represented with no taboo and merely no intimacy? How do we understand our bodies v/s beauty, ageing, one another, differences, the machine it might become in a near future?

Sculpture, painting and works on paper by artist Michael Cartwright. Michael’s artwork has always been very free and expressive and he himself would call it eclectic, as there is so much of his work that seems varied, but actually makes up the whole picture of his world, of life on the edge, tipping, just in balance. His energy is fast and passionate. He has a broad palette working in stone, wood, steel, found objects, bronze for sculpture, he paints in oil and/or acrylic on linen, and draws with pen and ink and pencil etc., he also does printmaking. His themes are often about nature in its relationship to man, the balance of life, and the wonder of the universe. He is at home with monumental and small works. A lot of his art suits outdoor spaces and architectural environments as his expression is often toward the huge, for example his sculpture ‘Passage’, 5 metres high in granite and bronze, commissioned for the Singapore Expo Centre, VIP entrance, and his 50 metre long painting of a river journey in Spring for the Capital M, Beijing Restaurant on Tiananmen Square. The idea of his work suiting gardens and hotels is right, because their meditative beauty suits these big environments. At the same time his treatment of small works is meticulous as he loves the finish in the process, perceiving it in scale if it is to be a larger work. Michael Cartwright lives in Tuscany with his partner, artist Shona Nunan.

James Kalm, despite some stinging comments published in a critique of the exhibition "Crossing Brooklyn," and the initial disappearance of his name from the guest list, is inadvertently admitted to the Museum's Brooklyn Artists Ball. While celebrity artists schmoozed with deep-pocket donors in the main foyer, your correspondent slinked upstairs to an empty gallery, and records video of "Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks". Jean-Michel Basquiat uniquely captured the spirit of his time in the 1980s East Village. Featuring 160 pages of rarely seen documents, and related works on paper and large-scale paintings, this display presents the artists poetic side, while also exposing his deep interest in language games, lists, ontological design and daily ephemera.
