More about the presenter: Paul Renaud, Akvaplaniva, Tromsø, Norway Paul Renaud studies the role of marine communities in the ecosystem. Working primarily with Arctic seafloor fauna, Paul investigates how community structure, carbon and nutrient cycling, and trophic interactions vary in time and space, the environmental forces leading to this variability, and the management implications of changes in climatic and human pressures in the system. Paul received his graduate degrees from the US and Sweden, and currently is a researcher at Akvaplan-niva in Tromsø (Norway), and holds adjunct faculty positions at the University Centre in Svalbard and the University of Connecticut (USA).

More about the Presenter: Rasmus Gjedssø Bertelsen is a Danish national and grew up in Denmark and Iceland. He has studied political and social sciences at the University of Copenhagen, the University of Iceland, the University of Geneva and the University of Lausanne earning a cand.scient.pol. (BA+MA in political science) and a Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies en Science Politique des Universités de Genève et de Lausanne (MA). He was a Huygens research stipendiary at the University of Amsterdam, where he met his wife, Maria Fernanda Gonzalez Rojas. Rasmus earned his PhD in International Relations at the University of Cambridge during which time he also was a visiting PhD candidate at Sciences Po Paris. His PhD thesis explained the lifelong development of British and French political leaders’ beliefs about international security between the 1880s and 1930s. Rasmus was Editor-in-Chief of the Cambridge Review of International Affairs. Between 2006 and 2009, Rasmus was a research fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University where he worked on the soft power of American- and French-origin universities in the Middle East and became aware of their developmental contributions and role as ‘information and resource bridges’. He is an affiliate of the Public Diplomacy Collaborative at the Kennedy School, an associate research fellow at the Nordic Institute of Asia Studies and a member of the University of the Arctic Thematic Network on geopolitics and security. Rasmus serves on the boards of the Arctic Portal and the Cambridge Review of International Affairs and served the British International Studies Association, the Churchill Archives Centre and the Churchill College Phoenix Society.
