Could museums be such urban think tanks? Could they be mediators between communities and officials? Why did the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw organise a festival with no artists involved using the model of an „urban academy“? http://2011.warszawawbudowie.pl/wwb3.php?id=Muzeum_jako_miejski_think_tank_

The works of one of the four think tanks appointed as part in the WWB festival focused on the phenomena of participation and civic „duties“ of new art institutions. We analysed the role of (post) museums as potential urban think tanks which, apart from exhibiting and educational activities, would also lead research activities, having at their disposal different tools from governmental agencies and academic institutions. http://2011.warszawawbudowie.pl/wwb3.php?id=Muzeum_jako_miejski_think_tank_

The session concerns various institutional models of reaching audiences and maintaining dialogue with a variety of social groups. We would also like to discuss the dynamics of collaboration between art institutions and their neighbours (during the WWB festival research was done regarding the reception of the activities of the Museum Of Modern Art in Warsaw amongst its neighbours living in the block of flats by Pańska street). We are also interested in activities aiming at gaining new audiences for 'temporary museums', i.e. large art festivals such as Documenta or Biennale characterized by increasingly political and activist stance. We will discuss whether a „civic museum“ is possible. http://2011.warszawawbudowie.pl/wwb3.php?id=Muzeum_jako_miejski_think_tank_

One night in October 2004, Richard Reynolds decided to weed out the entire content of the flowerbed in his neighbourhood in Elephant & Castle - the working-class district of London. Afterwards he planted the flowers he had been given by his mother in the empty lot. Today, Reynolds is the leader of the guerilla gardening movement and the author of the book entitled “On guerilla gardening: A handbook for gardening without boundaries”. He also has a blog which functions as an international forum for exchanging information among guerilla gardeners. http://2011.warszawawbudowie.pl/wwb3.php?id=Richard_Reynolds_Krotka_historia_partyzantki_ogrodniczej_
