For the Fallen, for trumpet and electronics, was commissioned and premiered by Italian trumpeter Ivano Ascari. The electronics were made by processing recordings of the Peace Bell, one of the largest ringing bells in the world, located in Rovereto, Italy, Ivano's home town. The bell was originally made from cannons melted after WWI, and is rung daily in memory of the fallen of all wars. Composing it for the Centenary of the start of WWI, I had the constant reminder of current wars. This performance is by Christopher Buchanan, outstanding trumpet faculty at the University of Virginia, and took place on 11/7/14 as part of TechnoSonics XV: Found Sound, presented by the McIntire Department of Music and the Virginia Center for Computer Music (VCCM) in Old Cabell Auditorium at UVA.

A folk song commemorating the Christmas truce held during the first World War 1, 1914- the 100th year anniversary of which is this year. Name your price at http://nualakennedy.bandcamp.com. Profits from the 2014 recording will be donated to the Wounded Warriors Fund. Contributions are welcome. www.woundedwarriors.org The Christmas truce was a series of widespread but unofficial ceasefires along the Western Front around Christmas 1914. In the week leading up to the holiday, German and British soldiers crossed trenches to exchange seasonal greetings and talk. In some areas, men from both sides ventured into no man's land on Christmas Eve, to mingle and exchange food and souvenirs. Several meetings ended in carol-singing. During the First World War, thousands of prisoners were taken overseas. But many Canadian citizens born in Europe were also held captive - by their own country. Internment camps across Canada held citizens who were considered a national threat, arrested and imprisoned. Report filed for CTV Saskatoon (CFQC) by Brady Knight.
