In 2011, The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation funded two grants through the Conquer Cancer Foundation: the Young Investigator Award and the Long Term International Fellowship Award. The Young Investigator Award was presented to Dr. Flavio Rocha, who has recently moved from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York to the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. Dr. Rocha is using the $50,000 grant from The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation to investigate CEACAM6 as a biological marker and prognostic factor for biliary malignancy. We are pleased to have Dr. Rocha joining us to provide an update on this study.

Deutsch Untertitel des Films. ---------------- Leo Kaserer is a human alien. Living and working in Kingsand, a small fishing village in Cornwall, UK, but originating from Austria, he is far from home, in both distance and culture. However, although this Austrian man, of stocky build, long hair, cool yellow glasses and worn woolen jumper, is technically a ‘foreigner’, you could not find a more Cornish-Austrian. Through a chance meeting with Malcolm Baker, the last traditional fisherman left in the joint villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, Leo began to learn about traditional fishing methods and embraced a new, simpler way of life that relies on community spirit, hard work and determination. With a background in youth and social work he was always looking for ways he could enrich young peoples lives with the same experiences that had changed his so dramatically, and then he saw Two Sisters. Two Sisters was a 100 year old fishing boat, in desperate need of restoration. Leo and Malcolm had an idea to involve 5 young people from all over Europe to restore Two Sisters. The boat would then be used by the community to teach children how to fish and row. The 5 Europeans: Markus, Ville, Fabian, Harry and Peter came from challenging and diverse backgrounds, each with their own issues that have prevented them going in the right direction in their own lives. Leo’s project built a team of friends, who a month ago were strangers, to complete a physical and demanding task. This is a short 20 minute film that documents a small part of the process the group undertook while in Cornwall.

What do youth workers think about coaching? The “Sky Atlas” training course was organised by Estonian UNESCO Youth Association from 4th to 11th of August 2013 in Tartu and Raadna. It brought together 16 youth workers and youth leaders 8 European countries. The accent of the training was made on coaching as an a new approach in helping young job and involvement seekers. The programme of the training however didn’t stick just to coaching as the only possible tool for present and future, but also provided a number of components offering participants to revise and rethink the conditions and situations in which one would need a coach's help. The training was supported by Youth in Action programme. Blog of the training: http://sky-atlas.tumblr.com Music by Murcof — Cielo and Flying Lotus — MmmHmm

A short film produced by Voidcomp on behalf of our client, Momentum Youth Development CIC. Tess is a teacher working in a Special School based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. As a participant on this years International Leadership Course she provided inspiration and a valuable and different perspective for other participants to explore. Tess's life has been shaped around her families work with disability and this motivated her to become a teacher herself. Across Europe disability education varies and this was a chance for 24 young people to come together to explore this and make their own informed decision about the subject. Momentum is building a long term relationship with Tess's school and our aim is to develop a connection with a like minded school in Europe where exchanges can take place. This is Tess's story about what the leadership course gave her. A short film produced by Voidcomp on behalf of our client, Momentum Youth Development CIC. To Build Lasting Relationships - Jordan: This Jordan Searcey a participant on the Momentum Leadership Course all the way from Nebraska, USA. Jordan came across our course via Twitter (@Momentumlive) and everyone agreed having someone from the USA would add enormous value to the course. For Jordan it was the first time she had been to Europe so it was important for us to make this programme extra special for her. It is fair to say life in the Nebraska is very different to life in London and South Yorkshire and this is why so much learning takes place. It is a chance to find out about each others culture and language and celebrate the differences. Understanding life in the American Mid West was a revelation for many on the course and this films explores Jordan’s motivation for stepping out of that world for 8 days. For more information on how Momentum can create an environment for change visit - www.youthmomentum.org Momentum would like to thank the Youth in Action programme - britishcouncil.org/youthinaction.htm for making this course possible. The main music tracks 'Fixing My Brain' & 'I Think I Started a Trend' was produced by Brad Sucks. Brad is a one man band who writes and records his songs, he then puts them on his website for people to download and hopefully share and enjoy - www.bradsucks.net
