This is a short version of a longer documentary film that the RecTech Youth Media Internship made documenting the creation of a mural on the retaining wall of the Youngstown Community Center. This video was created by the teens of the summer 2014 RecTech Youth Media Institute. They shadowed the progress of teen interns working out of the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center to design and paint a mural on the 210 foot retaining wall in front of the building on Delridge Way. Youngstown interns, funded by the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative, worked under the direction of fantastic teaching artists Louis Chinn and Sara Ferguson. A longer version of this film is posted on YouTube that features more interviews with the youth who worked on the mural, interviews with Delridge community members, and the final ribbon cutting ceremony. We hope you enjoy it! Please feel free to leave your comments for our youth here. Many thanks to the Power of Place job training program for funding our RecTech Youth Media Intern stipends this summer, and extra thanks go to Scott Macklin, Associate Director of the Communication Leadership program at the University of Washington for volunteering and mentoring our youth. Thanks also to David Bestock, Youngstown Cultural Arts Director for his support and assistance.

A documentary about youth. Documented a collection of respondences to "How do butterflies die?". Butterfly is an iconic image of beauty and freedom. When I see them lying lifelessly somewhere on the ground, sometimes even crushed and deformed. It's such a pity to see them with such endings, especially imagining they once have lived so beautifully and freely. I'd wonder how did they die and what had happened to them. Selected to focus only at the hands of the responders, rather than their faces normally, is to eliminate the distraction of our bias of people's faces. Through focusing on the gesture and texture of the hands that subtly tells about the respondences, would leave more room for interpreting the respondences.
