The Elfo Theatre Company is one of the most important group in Milan. It was founded in 1972 at a time of great political and social ferment by a heterogeneous group of people including former drama students and politically engaged people, all with a deep interest in theatre.
Over the last forty years, the Company has constantly worked to draw young people to theatre thanks to its innovative repertoire. The two artistic directors -Elio De Capitani, Ferdinando Bruni (and formerly Gabriele Salvatores)- and an extremely cohesive group of young actors and administrative staff work effectively together.
While the Italian theatre is currently characterised by a lack of creative energy, experimental work and new texts, the Company has introduced many important contemporary dramatists from other parts of Europe and several members have written their own plays.
