Jacky Lee (a.k.a. TheBoyWhoCriedAction) is a Singaporean filmmaker. At the age of 17,
and without a clue of what he was getting himself into, he enrolled himself in a 3-year
design course. It was during then that he watched Wong Kar Wai’s Chungking Express
for the very first time. He was captivated by the film’s raw energy and charm that he
never thought film was capable of capturing. It remains his favourite film to date and still
serves as a constant source of inspiration. He also likes films by Wes Anderson and
Michel Gondry for their individuality and highly stylised visual style.
In 2010, he graduated from Swinburne School of Technology in Melbourne with a B.A. in
Film & Television. He was actively involved with several Singapore films as part of the art
department, honing his skills prior to leaving for Melbourne.
Since his return, he has made two short films and has lectured at his alma mater,
Jacky does not take himself too seriously and his films even less so. His films are often
visually vibrant with colourful characters, a catchy soundtrack, and offbeat humour.
His latest short film "Sunshine' was an official selection at the Unofficial Google+ Film
Festival 2014 and Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2014. It was also awarded Best
Sound at the 5th Singapore Short Film Awards and the Silver Remy Award at The Houston International Film Festival 2014. He is currently writing his next short film.
