We are The Fattenin' Frogs and we play rock & roll music in its original spirit by turning up the intensity on traditional American music. With a style developed by electrifying blues, country, folk, R&B, gospel, bluegrass, and jazz from the first half of the 20th century, we aim to help bring rock music back to its roots. Expect to hear a mix of original songs and interpretations of classic songs by artists such as Charley Patton, Leadbelly, Son House, Bukka White and Etta James. We believe in the importance of using musical versatility and creative singing to bring out the full potential of every song. We also believe that the show is more than just the music. Come on out ready to sing, clap and dance along with us and celebrate the great tradition of American music.
The Fattenin' Frogs were formed by Berek Awend, Chris Holm, and Mark Larson in early 2009. After playing in rock bands in the Twin Cities for years Chris and Mark were driven by a determination to dive into the roots of 1960's rock & roll, a style they loved above all other music. Berek was back to the Twin Cities music scence after spending 8 years in chicago, playing rock and roll and blues. Chris answered Berek’s call on Craigslist together they began playing old blues songs together with Mark on drums, Berek on guitar & piano, and Chris on harmonica and vocals. Eventually they incorporated other styles and instruments into the mix. Casie Siekman joined on vocals and fiddle. Paul DeLong joined on bass. Berek’s wife Amanda and Chris’ girlfriend Danielle began singing backing vocals and The Lily Pads were born. An album was recorded, tribute shows to Howlin' Wolf, Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, and a sold out O Brother Where Art Thou show was performed at The Ritz Theater. With the new addition of Amanda White’s soulful voice to our lineup, The Fattenin’ Frogs are firing on all cylinders and set to release their exciting new second album, 12 Bars, on December 14th.
