Waterland Film specialises in producing and co-producing feature films, short films and TV series. The company works in close collaboration with strong, established filmmakers as well as young, striking talent. Waterland combines interesting content and innovative cinematographic quality. Challenging arthouse films with stories that matter and feature films for a broader audience. Waterland focuses on both the national and international market.
Waterland Junior is Waterland’s label for high quality films and television drama for a young audience.
Waterland Film produced i.a. the feature films ‘Sleeping Rough’ by Eugenie Jansen (Tiger Award 2002) and ‘Kauwboy’ by Boudewijn Koole. ‘Kauwboy’ won the ‘Best First Feature Award’ and ‘Best Youth Film’ at the Berlinale 2012. The film was the Dutch Submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film 2013 and won the EFA European Discovery Award and EFA Young Audience Award.
Recent Waterland co-productions are ‘Abrir puertas y ventanas’ (‘Golden Leopard’ for Best Film and Best Actress 2011) by Milagros Mumenthaler and ‘Bullhead’ (Academy Award Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film 2012) by Michaël R. Roskam.
Recent TV series produced by Waterland Film include ‘The secrets of Barslet’ (7 episodes) by Boris Paval Conen and the miniseries ‘The downfall of Willem Aantjes’ (2 episodes) by Anne van der Linden.
Jan van der Zanden and Wilant Boekelman founded Waterland Film in 1994. In 2011 Waterland Film became an autonomous part of television production company Tuvalu Media.
