ellenjong

A reinterpretation of an Imperial Chinese cave dwelling "water prison." The site-specific performance was documented; Jong marking the walls of an underground bomb shelter in Shanghai China at her body height. A meditation on life and death, the continuous markings draw an absolute on both her existence. She uses a traditional Chinese ink-stick which is dried and ground on a stone with water. She rejects using a brush and marks the wall directly using the stick; repurposing and reclaiming it.
