The Omenka Gallery was established by The Ben Enwonwu Foundation in pursuance of its objectives to preserve and build on the life and work of celebrated Nigerian artist, Professor Ben Enwonwu MBE (1917-94), while increasing the visibility and appreciation of Nigerian visual art and culture.
Omenka has since become a leading art gallery in Nigeria and represents a fine selection of established and emerging contemporary Nigerian artists working in diverse media. Through its vigorous programme of solo, group and large themed exhibitions accompanied by exquisitely produced catalogues and books, the gallery stimulates critical thought and discourse centered around contemporary art developments in Nigeria.
In its commitment to the development of contemporary Nigerian art, the gallery is extending its participation in major art events and collaborating with international galleries and museums on workshops and residencies to promote cultural exchange and encourage professional artistic development.
The Omenka Gallery is located within Enwonwu’s home in Lagos, which lends to its historical significance and houses one of the finest collections of the artist’s works.
