El Mehdi Azzam was born in Marrakesh in 1984. After studying engineering and physics, he joined the ESAV Marrakesh, the first film school in Morocco, where he obtained a Bachelor of Directing and a Master in the same specialty. In 2008, his first short film entitled "Trapped" received the Grand Prix at San Sebastian Film Festival (film schools) by a jury chaired by Amos Gitai . In 2009, the same film represents Morocco in the International Competition of Clermont- Ferrand film festival . In 2009, his first documentary " The Pond" won the 2nd prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival (film schools). In 2010 "The Pond" was selected at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. His 3rd short film, "Dirty Laundry" won the Grand Prix of the contest " Jeunes Regards "at the Youth Days in Paris in 2011. Actually, El Mehdi Azzam lives between Tangier and Marrakesh. He's working on his first feature documentary "No, we won't live for long" (FidLab 2013) and a fiction entitled "A strange red cocktail" .
