I played my first digital game - a poor attempt at Space Invader - in my parents' seaside amusement arcade during 1979. Attempts to delete this initial inexperience with years of practice led to digital games becoming a significant part of my life, later intersecting with academic interests in media and popular culture.
I'm interested in how new media forms and the way we use them can have a positive social impact upon our lives, changing how we live whilst entertaining us and making us happier.
As an academic my research focuses upon the civic, educational, and political applications of digital games, the possibilities of alternative game forms like ARG’s, and seeking out fresh gaming possibilities.
As a fan I spend way too much time playing Flower, listening to Girl Talk, watching The Wire, and Tweeting.
