Jean Biche is a Brussels-based performance artist, graphic artist and musician who creates a unique theatrical universe of baroque and often disturbing images which challenge the viewer with unresolved questions of personal boundary and the significance of ritual.
His work specifically unseats rote notions of sacrifice, heartbreak and gender by combining pop references, legend and nostalgia in subversive an unexpected combinations, a process which has been said to resemble a medieval exorcism in its erasure of comfortable presumption and unforgettable enigmatic tableaux.
Jean Biche earned his Masters degree in Illustration at La Cambre in 2001, and takes inspiration in his current work from such outsider artists as Leigh Bowery or Felix Gonzales-Torres.
Jean Biche has collaborated with Yves-Noël Genod, An Pierlé, Damien Jalet, Pierre Droulers, Laetitia Bica, Mademoiselle Jean, Dominique Thirion, and many more. He is currently working with Paul Marique & Untitled Structure, and regulary with queer cabaret Bas Nylon.
