Best known as one half of Britain’s much loved pop rock combo Supergrass, Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey have now teamed up with world-renowned producer Nigel Godrich to bring you The Hot Rats.
With the idea of throwing themselves together into the studio to see what would happen, they are in the process of creating their own ‘Pin Ups’ style versions of classic songs celebrating some of pop and rock’s greatest contributors over the last 40 years.
With whispers of Syd Barrett, Roxy Music and The Sex Pistols floating up from the dark recesses of the studio, this latest Goffey/Coombes side project is born out of a true love and respect for their rock heroes and promises to be a corker.
This is not the first time the duo has worked in this capacity. Gaz and Danny took on the shady characters of Duke Diamond (AWOL) and Randy Hoo Ha (RIP) - AKA The Diamond Hoo Ha Men - when bassist Mick Quinn suffered severe back injuries after a fall. The duo played songs from the 2008 Supergrass album ‘Diamond Hoo Ha’ to delighted young crowds in clubs across the country.
You will no doubt be able to catch The Hot Rats at your local working men’s club or disreputable gin joint over the next few months.
