Terry Smith has exhibited internationally since the 1990s and in 2008 received a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award in recognition of a body of work encompassing site-specific architectural interventions, video installations and sound works. Since 2008 Smith has explored and experimented with different educational models, from the Speakeasy series, with Kenneth Anger and Richard Wilson at the BFI, to WORDPLAY, an experimental day at the ICA in 2009; bringing in artists, performers and historians to examine different teaching practices and innovative ways of talking about art. Between 1994 and 1996 he made site-specific interventions at a number of locations including the British Museum and Tate Modern, London and MACBA, Barcelona. His work has been shown at the Venice Biennial in 2009, 2007, 2003, 2001 and 1999.
