LIONORFOX is the independent label used by Sarah Muehlbauer. Sarah is a visual and performing artist whose work is tied through storytelling. She uses personal and archetypal symbolism to reflect on modern spirituality and the human place in its environment. Combining painting and poetry, movement and objects, Sarah tells stories of healing and transformation, using a raw material aesthetic that leaves work unsettling, yet grounded.
Muehlbauer holds a Bachelors degree in Painting and Drawing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Masters in Material Studies from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She interned with Circa Contemporary Circus, and studied dance and wearable sculpture under Loren Schwerd and Martha Brim at Penland School of Craft. She is also a certified yoga instructor through YogaWorks, which she studied under Joan Hyman.
She is a constant collaborator and the list of companies and individuals she's made work for, under, or alongside is long and varied, including Broken Arrow Workshop, Anandam Dancetheatre, Peñasco Theatre, Cotton Candy Circus, Give and Take Jugglers, Beacon Food Forest, SANCA, Madison Circus Space, Pantea Productions, Gemini Wolf, and a long list of independent artists.
