I believe stories are powerful tools for learning and was honored to work with this group of students and faculty, documenting the stories of the ICON Solar House team.
A freelance media producer and University of Minnesota graduate student in Learning Technologies, I first came to the ICON Solar House project because of my interest in creating renewable energy educational curriculum. When I started creating short web videos during the construction of the house in 2009, I became hooked on the story of the team’s journey to Washington D.C.
“Daunting,” is important as it reveals an inside view of the vulnerability of the project, providing context for the team’s motivation and success. When we assembled the house on the National Mall in record time, against all odds, I knew the story had to be told. When we won first place in lighting design and engineering, well, it was obvious we had to document and share those stories as well.
