Jeff Wager is an accomplished filmmaker who graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film, and the 1994 EVVY Award for Best Cinematography. Wager mostly balances his time between independent feature films and commercials.
After Film School, Jeff continued to shoot numerous independent short films and soon found himself working grip/electric for IATSE Local 16 in San Francisco. Here he gained valuable experience working for Warner Brothers on Sphere, Disney’s Flubber, and television shows like Nash Bridges, for CBS.
Wager was working as a Lighting Director, Gaffer, and Camera Operator in the late 90’s which quickly led to DP jobs - Music Videos for Third Eye Film Works, most of which aired on the BET Network. This in turn, opened the door for camerawork at Macy’s Satellite Network, interviews with Joe Satriani, Metallica, and Josh Gorban for Speedway Films in Los Angeles, and other low budget features.
In 2006, Wager shot all the Jerry Rice interviews for ABC’s Dancing With The Stars, and then went on to shoot an African Dance Feature, Sabar for the Rhesus Media Group (Best Feature Film and Audience Choice Award at the 2009 Urban Mediamakers Film Festival)
In 2008 Wager Directed Photography on Where’s Marty? (best picture, travel category, Huston World Fest), a feature for the Monterey Film Commission with cameo roles from Betty White, George Lopez, Ken Howard, and Tony Curtis.
Wager’s versatility, technical knowledge, and creative problem solving abilities afford his team high production values without the usual price tag associated with high-end production. He is a NAUI certified SCUBA diver with underwater shooting experience, as well as helicopter, and other small aircraft shooting experience.
Other clients include Silicon Graphics Inc., BP Solar, Safeway, VMware, Intel, Goodby Silverstein and Partners, Eleven, Sofia Coppola, Nickelodeon, Reel Work Labor Film Festival, The PGA, and many others.
Wager lives between Burlington, VT and SanFrancisco, CA. He has also taught Cinematography, Film 2, and Psychology of the 30 second Commercial for Burlington College where he spent 4 years Technical Director. He has run a number of workshops as well, including Filmmaker’s Boot Camp, The Grip workshop, and Adventure Cinematography in South Andros, Bahamas.
