JUSTINE A. CHAMBERS
Justine A. Chambers is a Vancouver-based contemporary dance artist. Her choreographic projects have been presented by Dances for a Small Stage, Dance Saskatchewan, Dancing on the Edge Festival, New Dance Horizons, The Roundhouse Community Arts Centre and the Western Front. Chambers is a founding member of projet bk. Justine is currently on of five artists in residence at ten fifteen maple (tenfifteenmaple.org).
She has collaborated with digital video artist Josh Hite on the creation of ’COPY: a movement based installation‘, ‘Incoming‘ for Codelab, and the ‘Green Boot Print’ for 350.org. In December of 2012 she collaborated with visual artist, Brendan Fernandes, on the creation and performance of The Working Move. Throughout July of 2013, Chambers toured Bali with Gamelan Gita Asmara performing,Sphinx, a solo created in collaboration with contemporary gamelan composer, Michael Tenzer. Recently she collaborated with visual artists, Jen Weih, on Stack of Moves at the Western Front
Chambers and battery opera’s Su Feh Lee co-facilitate the monthly forum The Talking Thinking Dancing Body; a conversation about aesthetics, context and artistic processes. batteryopera.com/classes/
As an interpreter, she has worked with a number of choreographers both nationally and abroad. Upcoming projects include: battery opera, adelheid dance projects, The 605 Collective/Theatre Replacement, and Out Innerspace Dance Theatre.
She teaches contemporary dance technique and creation strategies/tactics at Arts Umbrella, Working Class, Toronto Community Love-In, Modus Operandi Training Program, and Ryerson University. Justine currently rehearsal directs for Out Innerspace Dance Theatre and Tara Cheyenne Performance.
