Before becoming a full time artist/film maker, I worked as a community and youth worker. My commitment to human rights and social issues significantly inform my practice. I studied fine art at the National College of Art and Design and that’s where I developed my passion for digital media and film. I am currently completing an MA at Goldsmiths College, London.

I was the first Irish film-maker to participate in ESODOC (The European Social Documentary Film Programme) in 2008. During that programme I created an award filming documentary film installation called “Outside I’m Singing’. The film documented the experiences of Ireland’s only lesbian choir as they prepared for their first musical performance. The adjudicator Tom Morton (Curator at the Hayward Gallery, London) described the work as ‘A brave and moving piece in which the value of human difference is joyfully affirmed’.

I have worked as film maker in residence with Cork, Kerry, Kildare and Limerick County Councils. Over the last few years I have worked with hundreds of young people in schools and youth groups, facilitating them to make their own films from start to finish. I have also faciltated film schools for the Irish Film Institute (Dublin).

In addition, I have worked with the art galleries to engage schools with their exhibition programme (Crawford Gallery (Cork), Lewis Glucksman Gallery (Cork) and the Model Niland Gallery (Sligo) In 2009 I set up a new creative project called The Happy Artist in Balllybunion, Co. Kerry. Through this project I organise creative film and animation opportunities for community and school groups.

I have been the recipient of numerous awards including the ‘Emerging Artist Award’ (Claremorris Open Exhibition, 2009), ‘Travel Award’ (Arts Council of Ireland, 2008), ‘Patronage Award’ (Laois County Council, 2007) and ‘Tyrone Guthrie Residency Award’ (Laois County Council, 2006).

Just recently I finished a short film commission for Kerry County Council Arts Office. The film was premiered and officially opened by the Minister for Arts and Culture in May 2012. “Inspired” is a creative documentary, which explores the theme of inspiration with 6 artists. Over the summer I also created a short documentary called “For the love of reading” with the local library service.
