JASON FIGGIS – DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
Award-winning director of October Eleven Pictures, Jason Figgis has an extensive background in the entertainment industry having worked creatively on two seasons of Murakami Wolf's hugely successful TV animated series 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'. He went on to work for the 'Roger Rabbit' creator Richard Williams on the cult feature 'The Thief and the Cobbler' - featuring the voice talents of horror legend Vincent Price and Sean Connery and for Steven Spielberg on Amblination's 'American Tail 2 - Fievel Goes West' - featuring the voice talent of Hollywood legend James Stewart - where Jason created special effects for key scenes. Since moving to directing Live Action in 2002, Jason has directed double IFTA award nominated and critically acclaimed 'The Twilight Hour' (described by Discovery Civilisations as 'Awe Inspiring' during its three year run, distributed to 100 countries in 2004 and with narration from Oscar nominee John Hurt), the award winning 'Cursed' (which was distributed in 2010 by Hollywood Studio Lionsgate for Pay TV through their Asian arm to 17 countries in Asia including Hong Kong, India, Pakistan and the Philippines) including other well received feature documentaries for Sky One, Discovery Channel, SVT (Sweden), RTE Network 2 (Ireland), KSM (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Spentzos Films (Greece, Cyprus), Von Lederer (Hungary), Sky Arts and Double 4 Studios (Slovenia). Jason's feature documentary 'A Maverick in London' (starring Alan Rickman, Joanna Lumley and Richard E. Grant) which played for three years on Sky Arts was selected by award-winning writer Toby Young ('How To Lose Friends And Alienate People') as his 'top picks' as part of the 'Toby Young Presents' night on Sky Arts One. Jason has just finished post production on his debut dramatic feature film '3Crosses' (described by Underground Cinema as ‘one of the most exciting independent feature films of the year’) and post production on feature film 'Blood' (written and directed by Bernadette Manton - filmed, edited and executive produced by Jason and described by the Irish Film Institute as ‘an intense and troubling mood piece and one of the most intriguing Irish DIY feature films of recent years’). Jason has launched into post production on a new adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel 'A Christmas Carol' for Paul Newman's foundation - Hole in the Wall. This feature stars Vincent Fegan, Bryan Murray, Brendan Grace, Lara Belmont and Brendan O’Carroll. Also in post-production is October Eleven Pictures’ feature film ‘Handheld’ (co-written and directed by Jason) which is set for release in 2011 and October Eleven Pictures in association with Haunted Earth documentary examining a paranormal investigation at Leap Castle in the Republic of Ireland called ‘Leap into Darkness’. Also in development with Jason's company is a feature film called 'The Lives of Tony O' starring Brendan O'Carroll, Mary McEvoy, John Kavanagh and Dave Duffy and feature film ‘Box’ starring Bill Fellows and Bryan Murray (which is set to go into production June 2011 in Dublin). Jason’s short films ‘Jo Jo’ and ‘Friends Like These’ feature music contributions from acclaimed musicians Damien Dempsey and Moby. Jason has directed Music Promos for The Blizzards, Paranoid Visions, Eyesclosed, The Habemus Chamber Choir, LLUTHER and horror short ‘All the Little Things’ featuring The Saturdays’ Una Healy (described by Showbiz Ireland as ‘Slick. Warped. Gory. Shocking. Stomach-churning’). He has also filmed Sinead O’Connor, Shane McGowan, The Republic of Loose and Fun Lovin’ Criminals in concert at The Academy, Dublin. Most recently, Jason has filmed, edited and directed the music promo for Welsh band THE AVISI and their track ‘Alternative Love Song’ which stars Eoin Macken (‘Merlin’) and Emmett J. Scanlan (‘Hollyoaks’). Jason is also a director of photography and an editor and member of the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland and can be found in the members section of sdgi.ie
