Aleksandar Kostic is a film director, producer and cinematographer born in Belgrade, Serbia and currently based in New York City. He has worked on a wide array of artistic films and multimedia projects with a host of independent producers, filmmakers, artists, composers and theatre directors.
Much of his creative work has revolved around the exploration of sense, memory and our movement through life, and understanding how we touch - and are touched by - the larger world we pass through. These themes pervade his short films “Walk of Life”, “Room”, and “Journey,” which screened at numerous US and international film festivals, including The Big Apple Film Festival New York, the New Filmmakers at Anthology Film Archives in New York, Barcelona International Short Film Festival, Docufest Atlanta and many more.
Kostic’s recent experimental film “Persistence of Memory” premiered at MaerzMusik festival in Berlin, Germany in March 2012 in conjunction with Joan La Barbara's concert work of the same name. The theme of the festival was “Cage and Consequences” celebrating the 100th anniversary of John Cage’s birth.
In parallel, 2008 he has also established himself in the area of documentary film with The World of Vija Vetra, an award-winning portrait of the renowned dancer and choreographer. His video installation work includes "Storefront Diva" in 2011 and at The Flea Theater's "Digital Debussy" series in Tribeca, 2013.
Most recently, Kostic directed the live performance of "Parallel Dreams", which was supported from a grant by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) and selected to be presented as part of Figment Festival 2014 at Governor's Island. In parallel, he has also made a short film bearing the same title, which developed over the process of producing the live performance component of "Parallel Dreams".
Through his New York-based company Kostic Films LLC, he has directed and produced numerous of projects in the last eight years. Feature film Allure, that he has produced and did a cinematography for, was selected to premiere at PÖFF | Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2014.
