New York Theatre Ballet (NYTB) is dedicated to inspiring a love of dance and enriching diverse audiences through its performances of contemporary and classic chamber ballet masterpieces for adults and innovative one-hour ballets for children –all at affordable prices.
The mission is carried out in the work of the Professional Company, its Ballet School NY and its LIFT Community Service Program. Working together these divisions reach adults and families across the country building a love for ballet and creating audiences for the future.
Founded in 1978 by Diana Byer, NYTB is the most widely seen chamber ballet company in the United States and has been hailed by The New York Times’ Alastair Macaulay as “an invaluable company.” Its roster includes dances by Frederick Ashton, Agnes de Mille, José Limón, Antony Tudor, James Waring, Merce Cunningham, and Richard Alston. Its performances provide an intimate, live ballet experience for all audiences.
As a chamber ballet company, NYTB’s small number of dancers allows it to perform small masterpieces with great mastery.
