I currently work in Winnipeg, Manitoba as a freelance cinematographer and as a camera assistant for IATSE 669.
Since entering filmmaking in 2003, the aspect that most appealed to me was creating beautiful images. As I have no ability to draw, I regard the camera as an extension of who I am as a person and as an artist.
The greatest pleasure I receive from cinematography is working with clients, directors and other filmmakers to create an emotional, intelligent image that directly impacts not only a viewer but all of those involved in its making. The human face is capable of portraying such a wide range of thoughts and impulses that a movie or still camera is capable of capturing it, but only those working behind the camera can give it greater meaning.
