I'm a public school teacher in Minneapolis who has been learning to make videos over the past 5 years. The smart way to do this would have been to start small and build skills incrementally. Never one to do things the smart way, I conceived and started shooting a huge project that took 3 1/2 years to complete. "Welcome to Coalwood" coalwoodmovie.com is an hour-long documentary about the small company-owned coal mining town of Coalwood, West Virginia. Coalwood is the boyhood home of author Homer Hickam, whose memoir called "Rocket Boys" was made into the movie "October Sky" in 1999.
While working on that project, I started doing some freelance video journalism stories for MinnPost.com, an online news source in the Twin Cities. About 40 of my short videos have been posted on MinnPost.
I've also done some promotional pieces for various non-profit organizations, including The Minnesota Zoo, The Minneapolis Federation of Teachers, the Minnesota Council of Churches and Andersen School in Minneapolis.
