Julio Ramos was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He is the author of several books on Latin American literature and culture. Some of his work has been translated to Portuguese, German and English. In 1995 he produced and co-directed the award-winning documentary, "La Promesa," (Official Selection, Margaret Mead Film Festival) about the San Lazaro/Babalu Aye pilgrimage to Rincon, Cuba. In 2011 he directed and produced "Mar Arriba: Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui's (Sub)versions." With Raydel Araoz, Ramos also co-directed and co-produced "Retornar a La Habana con Guillén Landrián." He is currently working on a documentary about Diego Rivera's Fordist murals in Detroit and the contradictions of the industrial paradigm.
