Maya has spent over a decade photographing movement & form - in and out of water. Her inspiration comes from the creative energy of motion, fluidity & natural lines.
London is home although Maya is originally from Portugal. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Imperial College and a masters from The Photography Institute, so as a visual artist, she is mostly self-taught. Water drew her to photography and early work consisted only of images underwater. The eventual fusion of Water & Motion occurred naturally as a result of being intimately involved with the Performing Arts scene. The work ventures into the mysterious, attempting to gently pull the viewer away from reality.
Maya has assisted and trained with Chris Nash in London & Lois Greenfield in New York, with a brief internship at the Tim Flach studio.
The Fine Art images are in public and private collections and have been recognized by juried international exhibitions and competitions. Maya has been commissioned & collaborated with a range of commercial & private clients such as Dance UK, Sadlers Wells, CHI & Partners, The Balbir Singh Dance Company, AD Dance Company, Random Dance, D&B Performing Arts, The English National Ballet, Body of People Dance Company & The Nureyev Medical Foundation and used by the Akram Khan Dance Company.
