Yael Schmidt is a multidisciplinary artist working in lens based medium. Her practice explores an individual state of mind within a broader environment and the inevitable sense of unease that accompanies the making public of a private act or thought. Her photographic and video recordings, mainly of close friends, focus on self-‐representation, and the performative as the point at which public and private realms intersect. She is a graduate of The MA Fine Art programme at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London and photography programme at Hadassah College, Jerusalem. Her video installations has been exhibited internationally in gallery, commercial and public spaces. Recent awards include a short-listings to the Renaissance Arts Prize by the Italian Cultural Foundation 2010 (UK); Best Documentary at the Stoke Your Fires Festival 2011 (UK); Best 50 Art Takes Miami Award (2010 (USA); The Helen Keller International Award (2011 UK). Schmidt is the recepient of the Sharett Art Prize (Israel).
