The series Fred Camper is shooting is the early "Unthreadings" which can be seen at http://www.fredcamper.com/A/Unthreadings/
the Van Eyck painting that we talk about at the very end is the following: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fd/Jan_van_Eyck_069.jpg
The artist and film-writer Fred Camper became a friend of mine during the years I spent in Chicago between 2000-2004. I learned from him an urgent sense of concentration, especially when experiencing art or nature. While I was videoing him taking photos for his "Unthreadings" series during our trip together to Brussels/Brugge on the day of January 19th 2017, I found myself immersed in this mindset, especially intensified by the act of observing/recording somebody who was observing/recording themself (maybe I should have titled my videoportrait “L'Arroseur Arrosé”?). Even though my own focus was always on Fred, apparently my camera was also interested in the inhabitants, the armored vehicles or the chimes of Belgium. Back at Wuustwezzel, Sasha Kleinbart was kind enough to pick us up from the train station even though it was past midnight.
