"Filming in the Bourne Woods - Afterworks Ltd.
We would like to inform you of our plans to film at Bourne Wood towards the end of October
on a film entitled Dartmoor. Our film is based on the popular book and play entitled ‘War Horse’ and is the story of a young man and his horse as they journey from idyllic pre First World War Devon through the horrors of war and how they eventually return to Devon, scarred by war but alive.
To facilitate our filming we shall be erecting a Film Set in the bowl at Bourne Wood from
Monday 4th October for approx 2 weeks, after this we shall be filming for approx 1 week and
then striking the Set endeavouring to be off site by early November. Just to inform you
that as from Monday 4th October we will have 24 hour security on site.
During the Prep period we shall ask the residents and members of the general public to
avoid walking through our ‘Film Set Construction Area’ but the rest of Bourne Wood will be
open to the public as normal.
As with previous films when we are actually filming certain parts of Bourne Wood will be
closed to the public, we will endeavour to keep the closures to a minimum in regards to the
areas and number of days. Further letter drops will nearer to the filming period outline
the affected areas and days.
Also as on previous films we shall be parking our Film Facility vehicles and positioning
marquees to service the filming in and around Bourne Wood including on some of the wide
avenues in the woods itself. The duration on site of these vehicles and marquees will be
kept down to the shortest possible time to try and limit any inconvenience to the public in
general and to the residents.
We have no plans for any ‘all night filming’ but our normal working day will include some
filming after sunset on each day.
We appreciate that Bourne Wood is regularly used for filming and that this may become
bothersome for the residents living immediately adjacent to the wood but the revenue from
filming greatly helps the local economy and helps to ensure that Bourne Wood remains such a wonderful place."
