The Two Oceans Aquarium, Cape Town, is passionate about inspiring in its visitors a love of and respect for the ocean. They are concerned about the threat that human activities have on life in the ocean and are working hard to create awareness about the issues of pollution and climate change. They are also actively taking a role to reduce their carbon emissions, save energy and promote renewable energy solutions.
In 2011 the Aquarium was selected as a Project 90 x 2030 green energy demonstration site. The first grid tied wind and solar PV system in the City of Cape Town, was installed on their roof! This was a truly a ground breaking project that is set to change the way we view energy generation and hopefully lead the way for similar green energy projects in the city.

The Johannesburg Zoo is taking their commitment to the environment to the next level and actively greening their operations and cutting their carbon emissions.
They believe that to truly conserve the environment we cannot just look at animals in isolation we need to look at our lifestyles and their impact on nature.
The Zoo has just become one of Project 90 by 2030's Green Energy demonstration sites, showcasing solar technology, solar golf carts and a bio-digestor. Now the 500 000 people who visit the zoo each year can see climate change solutions in action.
Since the 19th Century, Reichenau Mission in KZN, South Africa, has literally been running on water - using hydropower to run its Mill and to generate electricity. Unfortunately the mission station was later abandoned and the mill fell into disrepair.
Over the past few years a group of passionate volunteers have been working to restore the Mill and create a sustainable community at Reichenau.
In 2011 they were selected as one of Project 90 by 2030's National Renewable Energy Demonstration Sites and received funding for the development of a hydro electric project that would be used to power the local primary school.
This enabled Reichenau to regain a piece of its sustainable heritage and take the first steps towards a greener future.
In South Africa there are about 2,5 million households without electricity. First Light - takes a look at a Rural Solar Initiative in KZN South Africa, where 50 impoverished households are fitted with solar lighting kits, many of them receiving electricity for the very first time.
This is an initiative by Project 90 x 2030.
Filmed on a Canon 600D, 1.4 50mm prime and a Canon XF100
In 2011 the Durban Botanical Gardens became one of 15 Renewable Energy Demonstration sites setup by Project 90 x 2030 in South Africa. At the gardens two, 2.1 kW solar photovoltaic arrays mounted to tracking systems were installed to run the visitors centre.
This film explores the connection between humans and nature and demonstrates how an understanding of natural systems can help us find solutions for a clean energy future.
