The task force was a multi-sectoral "SWAT team" that was brought together by PS. Dr. Bitange Ndemo to work with the Ministry of Information to gather, collate and release public development data through http://opendata.go.ke. The Kenya Open Data Initiative was launched by President Mwai Kibaki six weeks after the KODI task force was formed.
