APFM is taking steps to advance diversity within our community and increase understanding about how unconscious bias affects professional family mediators.  We joined with the Massachusetts Council of Family Mediators (MCFM) and Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council (MCLC) in November 2020 to provide a workshop titled: “Unconscious Bias: Creating an Understanding that Works for Everyone,” and presented by seasoned expert, David Campt, Ph.D.  The workshop reviews the nature of unconscious bias and explores the ways that such bias and associated built-in racial hierarchies tend to undermine goals of an inclusive and just society. This program is specifically addressed to dispute resolution professionals.  Dr. David Campt, has helped groups focus on a variety of topics including strategic planning, conflict resolution, creating more inclusive decision-making, leadership succession, cultural competence, and many others. David is an engaging and thought-provoking speaker who is adept at infusing humor into his reflections.
