Be Bougie co-founders Kasandra Scales and Allyson Hillard share how they're using Vimeo Create and Facebook to make major marketing moves.

If you’ve ever been called “too much,” Be Bougie co-founders Kasandra Scales and Allyson Hillard know your pain. “People have called us ‘Bougie’ for having particular interests; from the men we prefer to date, to the standards we set for ourselves in the workplace, all the way down to the type of stationery we like to use,” says Kasandra. In response, the duo created Be Bougie, a line of curated wearables designed for anyone with high standards and a passion for personal development.

The pair – who also work as full-time OB-GYNs (really!) – even earmark 10% of their profits to go towards charitable organizations supporting young women’s confidence and self-worth. With such a powerful mission (and some pretty chic tees, mugs, and visors) Kasandra and Allyson have invested in social media video to develop their business and get the word out about their goals.

“As side hustlers, all of the work and effort we put into our ecommerce business is done when we are not working; which is on our days off, weekends, evenings and post-call days,” says Kasandra. That means the Be Bougie duo needs a sustainable and scalable way to make social content that’s plug and play – and as bougie as they are. “Vimeo Create pushed us to create more video content for our brand,” says Kasandra. “And Facebook has been instrumental in helping our business grow."

By pairing Facebook's marketing mojo with Vimeo Create's intuitive video creation, Kasandra and Allyson have been able to drive more sales, increase ad recall, and multiply add-to-carts exponentially. Here's how they're making it happen.

Building foundations on Facebook

In lieu of a brick-and-mortar meeting place, Kasandra and Allyson knew they wanted to create a digital space for Be Bougie women to connect. "While we find joy in serving our patients everyday, our online company allows us to connect with people in other ways and to create a community that is positive, uplifting and educational,” says Kasandra. To pull it off, the Be Bougie team uses Facebook Groups to nurture their dedicated audience.

“As full-time working physicians, there is no way we would be able to quickly reach as many customers without Facebook,” says Kasandra. “We connect on a deeper level with our followers via our Book Club using Facebook Groups."

With so many plates spinning, Kasandra and Allyson also rely on the user-friendly Facebook Business Suite to keep everything straight. “With so many resources, it can sometimes feel overwhelming,” says Kasandra. “But having the Facebook Business Suite and the tutorials ready at your fingertips makes each task doable when you are ready to work on it.”

Unlocking high-quality content with Vimeo

To fill their feeds with high-quality video without the need for a production studio or outside hires, Kasandra and Allyson turned to Vimeo Create – one of Facebook’s featured Creative Business Apps – for a sustainable way to scale video production without adding more hours to their already busy day-to-day.

“We liked having different options to create professional-looking videos in an easy drag and drop interface,” she adds. “We found it to be very user friendly.” With Vimeo Create, the pair was able to craft bunches of polished videos for their social audience, without the need for technical know-how or hours of tool onboarding.

“Vimeo is a great option for people who would like to have professionally formatted videos but do not know exactly how and where to start,” notes Kasandra.

“Each year, each quarter, each week, we constantly see improvement, which helps us move our mission forward in uplifting the lives of women, teens and young girls.”

A match made in marketing heaven

By utilizing Vimeo Create’s powerful video features alongside Facebook’s impactful distribution tools, Kasandra and Allyson have been able to super-charge their growth, while keeping their creative juices flowing.

In fact, after focusing on creating video ad content with Vimeo Create, then targeting (and retargeting!) via Facebook ad manager, the team saw a 281% increase in sales quarter-over-quarter, and an average order value increase of up to 50%. If that wasn't impressive enough, their videos also drove a 40% improvement in view content, a 2.5x lift in adds-to-cart, and an increase of over 15 points in ad recall.

“We know business is a journey,” says Kasandra. “Each year, each quarter, each week, we constantly see improvement, which helps us move our mission forward in uplifting the lives of women, teens and young girls.”
