John Brevard has a reputation for his unique perspective and attention to detail — here's how he gets it all done.

Designer John Brevard’s love for eco-inspired design began under extraordinary circumstances when he was just a kid. “At the age of 14, I had a combined form of encephalitis and meningitis. It hospitalized me for months,” says John. “After that near-death experience, I became more creative.” Throughout his teens and 20s, John nurtured that creativity by studying architecture, before developing his skills in the interior design and retail space.  Now, John’s namesake lifestyle brand includes jewelry, furniture, art, and sculpture, all unified under his uniquely architectural point of view. A creator at heart, his busy schedule and multidisciplinary approach has made him a multi-tasking expert: which means he uses Vimeo Create to turn around high-quality video content in no time, flat. “In the past, creating videos was a lengthy and expensive process for us,” John says. “Now, anyone can make one.” We caught up with John to hear more about his ground-breaking approach to design, his ecommerce video marketing strategy, his company’s COVID response, and more.

Tell us about John Brevard.

John Brevard was founded with the mission to empower people through design, art, jewelry, and architecture. I have always been fascinated by patterns found in nature, sacred geometries, and theoretical sciences. Our company’s pieces and spaces are intended to inspire and empower.

You’re a designer, architect, artist, and entrepreneur, to name a few. How do you manage it all?

Each one of these disciplines becomes an area of intense focus when a particular passion, inspiration, or project emerges. I’ve found that the more I have going on, the more I can get done. I don’t focus on all projects in one day. Instead, I break it up into chunks of tasks to complete over the week for each project.

Was video marketing a big priority when you first launched?

Our growth is mostly organic and through word of mouth. Thus far we have done no formal PR and have done minimal marketing. More social marketing, specifically using video, is a direction where we’d like to grow in order to attract a broader audience.

Why is video important to you?

We use video in social media, in our stores, and on our website to communicate our mission and aesthetic to our customers. Compared to a static picture, video allows a longer story to be told and a deeper connection with the viewer.

How do you use Vimeo Create?

Vimeo Create is easy to use and helps us to quickly create professional-looking video content. It’s a rather seamless transition for us, especially since we already use your platform to host existing brand video. We look forward to using it more to promote our business.

How are you navigating the challenges of COVID-19?

Like most businesses, we have had to scale back, as several shows we were scheduled to exhibit at have been canceled. Instead of doing in-person trunk shows, we are doing a lot more on social and online. Everything is moving to digital.
