How Spoak Decor is delivering powerful results with video

Founder Hilah Stahl uses Vimeo Create to create a fun and engaging user experience for her customers.

When Spoak founder Hilah Stahl was preparing to move into her NYC apartment, she discovered two things about the interior design process. One: she absolutely loved developing the look and feel of her pad. Two: the actual design process can be a total pain. “Hours on Pinterest, Instagram, Etsy, thousands of tabs open, it was a mess,” says Hilah.

In an effort to take down some barriers to entry in the interior design process — and empower aspiring designers around the world — Hilah founded Spoak, an indie design platform and community for interior design lovers of all skill levels. “I just kept thinking: why isn’t it this easy to make and sell design projects? Why isn’t there fun tooling for something so universally enjoyed? Why can’t I easily monetize my design acumen as a side gig, without spending thousands on classes and certifications?” And so, Spoak was born.

But Spoak needed a way to break down their site and connect to more customers. So they turned to Vimeo Create to make stylish, scalable video that helped them connect directly to their community.

"We don’t have the time or money to outsource demo videos. Being able to create them quickly and beautifully was a game-changer for us!"

Simplifying interior design

Founded in 2018, the powerhouse team of three at Spoak works hard to prioritize their growing community of interior design devotees and make it easy for them to engage with and understand Spoak’s multi-faceted platform.

“Our customers are deeply visual people,” says Hilah. “Showing rather than telling is a powerful way to reach them. Video can show potential customers what Spoak is and what it can do.”

Making it happen, in-house

With a small team and limited budget, Hilah needed an easy way to give customers visuals that would unlock the Spoak user experience. “We don’t have the time or money to outsource demo videos,” notes Hilah. “Being able to create them quickly and beautifully was a game-changer for us!” Hilah uses Vimeo Create to demystify everything from their design tools to how to use their Spoak Chrome extension.

Powerful video tools, powerful results

In a test designed to determine the efficacy of Spoak’s Vimeo Create video ads, Hilah saw a 35x higher engagement rate and 30% more registrants when compared with still imagery. (Impressed? We were, too.)“We are big fans of Vimeo Create,” adds Hilah. “We’ll continue to use Create for all new feature releases and to make more robust demo videos of Play and its offerings.”
