If there are, as we have claimed, many false gospels in the United States, the question comes back to where did it all start? Where did the lies begin? With all error, it comes back to a departure from Biblical truths. No matter how small the departure may seem in the beginning, a lessening of what God has said will always lead to apostasy.

Toxic Intelligence - Modernism was spawned in 17th century Germany. It is the idea that in order for the human race to grow and develop we must continue to expand our knowledge and not get stuck in old ways of thinking. By the 1800s, modernism had touched all areas of life including literature, art, family, industry, and even the church. Not wanting to be irrelevant, theologians tinkered with ideas that were new and novel, yet very dangerous. The result was a twisting of the truth of scripture in order to make it fit the modern world. The same is occurring today on multiple fronts.

Charles Spurgeon is one of the most well-known preachers in Church history. Toward the end of his 40 years of preaching, however, he saw the church in decline. He called for a return to Biblical teaching and a right understanding of scripture. The ensuing controversy was known as the Downgrade Controversy. It eventually cost him his life. The same Downgrade is occurring today. Churches in the United States have lowered their view of scripture and the gospel in order to elevate the methodology of growing crowds. Churches entertain, but at the expense of truth.
