==================================== Unfolding Space: Study Videos 1/6
====================================
This Video shows the procedure of one trial run – in the example shown, using the cane. A total of 784 trials have ben conducted in this exact procedure, half of it with the cane, the other with the investigated Unfolding Space Glove.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In August / September 2021 I conducted a study with 14 subjects on the Unfolding Space Glove: An Open Source spatio-visual to haptic sensory substitution device for blind people, that allows blind or visually impaired users to haptically sense the depth of their surrounding space and thus (hopefully) better navigate through it.
These clips – shot at the study site – are intended to give an idea of how the device works and how the study was conducted. Note that only about one tenth of the actual trials were filmed and that the selection of the clips shown here was made according to subjective criteria. Please consult the publication itself (research.unfoldingspace.org) for a thorough description of the device and its scientific evaluation.

This is an exemplary selection of very successful and efficient wayfinding with the Unfolding Space Glove. The subjects also completed the same amount of trials with the cane as comparison. Check out the "Comparison" videos to see both aids in action.

This is an exemplary selection of some less successful and inefficient situations with the Unfolding Space Glove. The subjects also completed the same amount of trials with the cane as comparison. Check out the "Comparison" videos to see both aids in action.

This video shows a sample of tasks that have been carried out by the subjects with the glove during the trainings. Note that only a few of them have been filmed and that there were many more. Sighted subjects completed similar tasks in the cane training.

This video shows 6 trials in complete and normal time. Every clip shows the same subject running an identical but mirrored course layout with one of the aids.
