This was the sea that sailors prepared for the most ambitious adventures in the great oceans, which underpinned the cultural foundations of European civilization.

O Mediterrâneo não é apenas um mar. Foi também matriz cultural, berço de civilizações, de ideias. As grandes religiões, os grandes sistemas de conhecimento, os grandes pensadores da antiguidade, passaram pelo Mediterrâneo.
O Mediterrâneo não é apenas um espaço físico mas um conjunto de grandes civilizações que surgiram ao longo da história, criando culturas que saíram das margens deste mar e percorreram o mundo.
Este era o mar que os marinheiros preparavam para as aventuras mais ambiciosas nos grandes oceanos, que alicerçavam as bases culturais da civilização europeia.
