This is a tilt-shift animation of different scenes from around Coventry.
Usually, to create a tilt-shift animation, something similar to time lapse photography for capturing footage should be used. I captured video footage instead, because it was more convenient at the time of shooting.
To create the effect of a tilt-shift (- a small, toy-like world), I captured the footage from a higher position, looking downwards at the point of interest.
In the post-production stage, I used two layers with the same scene. The bottom one had the video unaltered and the top layer had a lens blur applied to it with a mask to show only the part of video where I wanted to draw the viewers attention to.
I colour corrected everyting and increased the saturation as well, in order to create the toy-like look of the objects.
Then I sped up the scenes in order to apply the time lapse effect to the video. The final step was adding the background music (Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites - Phonat Remix).
A disadvantage of working with a video footage instead of images is smaller resolution. In some scenes, I had to scale up the video to get rid of some corner area that I did not like. Because of that, subtle pixelation occurred in those scenes, but are only visible in the unblurred regions.
