Longlining is one of the most destructive industrial fishing practices on the planet — stretching up to 100km of baited hooks across the ocean, killing countless marine creatures as bycatch.
Directed and animated by Dropbear (Jonathan Chong) for Greenpeace Australia Pacific, this short film follows a baby blue shark as it navigates the dangers of industrial longline fishing in our “blue backyard,” the Tasman Sea. Through a powerful mix of handcrafted collage and expressive 2D character animation, the film exposes the unseen brutality of this practice and calls for urgent action to protect our oceans.
At the heart of the campaign is a message of hope — a global movement to ratify the Global Ocean Treaty, which aims to safeguard 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030.
